Celebrating Conservation: Orvis Charlotte, NC
On October 17, 2024, the Orvis retail store in Charlotte hosted a meaningful event, led by Orvis board member Tim Belk and property owner Jamie McLawhorn, to support the Blue Ridge Guide Association (BRGA). The BRGA plays a vital role in connecting guides across western NC and eastern TN, advocating for the hashtag#conservation and management of the cherished South Holston and Watauga Tailwaters, which are integral to our local fishing community.
In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, the BRGA established a Disaster Relief Fund to assist guides, lodges, and fly shops affected by flooding. Thanks to the generosity of attendees, Orvis raised an incredible $6,336 during this event!
To make a donation of your own, visit the BRGA website HERE.
This Helios D 5wt Fly Rod complete with a custom Timmy Grip raised $5,500 in donations for the BRGA.
The evening featured a candid conversation with our guests about the essential role of guides in fostering our appreciation for the outdoors and promoting conservation efforts. Jon, Matt, and Brownie also shared their firsthand experiences during Hurricane Helene and provided updates on the recovery efforts in their area.

Special thanks to our new associate, Christopher Bonner for capturing these moments; and to District Manager Mary Schaeffer and the store team for their efforts in hosting this fabulous event.
Together, we are making a positive impact in our community and safeguarding our beloved waterways. Thank you to everyone who participated!
